Justin Green wins the John Sweeney Memorial
On a day that often felt more November than June conditions-wise, Justin Green (13) produced a sparkling round of golf to win the John Sweeney Memorial with a stunning 64 nett score. A howling wind was blowing around Portsalon on Saturday, darting one way then another, making for extremely tough playing conditions in the always testing stroke-play format. Justin carded four pars and a birdie on his front nine to turn in three-over par before a quality run of five successive par to start the inward nine. After a double-bogey at the 16th – his only blip on the card – he showed the steely response needed to birdie the par-five 17th and signed off his round in real style with a closing par, signing for a 77 gross score, five-over par. An exceptional round, all the more so in the prevailing conditions, and a truly worthy winning score, Justy's name will be added to the magnificent John Sweeney Memorial Trophy. Runner-up on the day was Vincent Bradley (26) with a 68 nett score, secured with pars on the final two holes. The gross went to Ryan McGettigan (Scr) with a level-par 72 score, terrific shooting on the day. Captain's Prize 2024 Mr Pat Horner will host his Captain's Prize on Saturday 29th June. The timesheet will be open for members on BRS on Sunday 23rd June.
