Entries for all events will close on Wednesday May 1st. Alongside the Club Singles and Doubles Matchplay events, we are delighted this year to introduce the Club Scratch Matchplay. This 18-hole knockout tournament will be played without handicap allocation and will therefore endeavour to find the best pound-for-pound matchplay golfer in the club each year. We look forward to seeing some excellent golf played and would urge members to support this competition. Entries now open for: Club Scratch Matchplay, Club Matchplay, Club Doubles Matchplay. Closing date for entries: 1st May Successful Saturday for Portsalon teams Two wins from two for Portsalon on Saturday afternoon as Sean Canning's Ulster Cup team overcame Ballyliffin and Joe Hensey led the Donegal Seniors to victory over neighbours Rosapenna. The Ulster Cup was a split venue affair, with three games in Portsalon and three more simultaneously over in Inishowen. At home, Donal Callaghan Jnr led out the team with a 6&4 win to get the team on the right track, while Brendan McHugh ran into some excellent golf and was defeated on the Matterhorn. In the final pairing, Colm McConigley was three-up thru 13 holes and sunk some good putts to stave off a fightback, winning 3&2. Over at Ballyliffin, Brian Devlin had a seesaw afternoon, going from 3up to 2down before eventually gaining an important half-match on the 18th hole, while Enda McElhinney put a Portsalon point on the board on Ballyliffin's Old Course with a 3&2 win, before Alan O'Doherty was defeated on the same scoreline. It all meant Portsalon got the verdict, 3.5 to 2.5 matches in a keenly contested and very sporting affair in both venues. Portsalon will face Strabane or Foyle next. Joe Hensey and his Donegal Seniors trailed to Rosapenna 3-2 after the first leg in Downings but they were able to turn that around on home soil. DP Logue and Felix Larkin led the team out, winning their match 4&3 and they were followed by Ollie O'Dowd and Finbarr McNamee, who marked their first competitive games for Portsalon in winning style. The reliable axis that is Paul Armstrong and Dermot Boyce put another crucial win on the board, while Captain Joe and Gary Sheehan were all square after 18 holes in their game – enough to seal the win for Portsalon by 5.5 to 4.5. Next up for Portsalon on this journey will be a two-legged clash with Dunfanaghy.
